The image painted on the base grid is the relevant 2,271 light year x 2,271 light year section of the modified European Space Agency's (ESA) Milky Way map. The base grid parallels the galactic plane, and lies 374 light years below the actual galactic plane. The large yellow circle centered around the Sun has a radius of 750 light years.
